This book is dedicated to the spectacular and baroque work of Kostas Lambridis, as part of a series of monographs on the thought and work of young contemporary designers.
Lambridis’ design reveals itself through an impulsive material assemblage, not subordinated to any hierarchical protocol and liberated from conscious manipulation, resulting in a clear-cut balance between tangible and symbolic, concrete and abstract.
Illustrated by a rich photographic series, the book presents the results of Lambridis’ creative thought through some selected projects; written by Barbara Brondi & Marco Raino, the volume recounts the experience of the Design Residency inspired by the theme “Rooted Flows” Lambridis was the protagonist of, which is part of the broader project IN Residence, a research program dedicated to design that has elaborated new reflections in the field of education and training, as well as in the support and promotion of creative talent, through an intense and recognized activity.
Kostas Lambridis (born 1988 Greece) is a designer based in Athens.
His unbridled and overindulgent passion for materials collides with his rapturous curiosity of history and brings to life chaotic works of contemporary design, an anarchistic act of cultural rebellion. Few words can evoke the madcap immodesty of Kostas Lambridis’ actions, the dizzying diversity of his material choices or the uncurbed ways in which he conducts his zealous journeys through the past. As a scholar of arts and crafts, with a liking for the most extravagant passages from his immoderate masters, Kostas studies his subjects before dissecting them into an exploded view. Realised to scale in the same dimensions as the worshipped objects, his collaged incarnations communicate colliding ideas; highly decorative yet also critical of the world we live in.
