isolarii #1: Salmon, A Red Herring

A beautiful little publishing project, Isolarii is presented as a series of pocket-sized editions, each one exploring a different theme or concept. The first is entitled Salmon: A Red Herring, and it uses the colour salmon pink as a way to interrogate the power that colour carries, the provenance of different colours, and the ways in which colours can be used to change how we see the world.

In this issue:

When intensively farmed salmon becomes a tangibly different fish from wild salmon, what do we mean when we call something salmon pink?
Where do our colours come from? A tour of tints, from the dyes used to turn salmon pink, to the petrochemical byproducts used to colour our world today.
How we ended up in a deceptive world where sparrows moult pink, dogs turn blue, and honey glows maraschino red.
All printed on a selection of papers that run the full spectrum of shades that can be called salmon pink.
