Born in South Korea, Hanna Moon became interested in fashion and moved to Seoul for two years to study textile, before flying to London at the age of 22 as part of a one-year exchange, where she studied fashion communication, discovered photography and assisted the photographer, Tyronne Lebon. For her first book, she has returned to Korea, to Seoul, but also to Daejeon, her hometown, 150 km south of the capital. Back to her roots, her family, and her friends. A dive into a country which remains mysterious to the West, despite its rising influence on popular culture. In Moon’s book the overall mood is intimate – and save some cinematic shots of casted talent, refreshingly less glamorous than the generally sanitized images of Korea we are used to. Here her country, serves as a captivating backdrop, but the photographer’s friends and family are its candid stars.
