Dirty #04 – ‘Identity’ by Tim Walker

Welcoming a magazine from Mumbai, Dirty ‘picks from the messy guts of Indian youth culture … rearranging pieces to present a New Order that’s both reflective and radical. Merging visuals and text to dance between fundamental confusion and total irreverence.’

This fourth issue, #4, is themed ‘Identity’ and is photographed wholly by Tim Walker. The collaboration between Walker and Dirty celebrates the timeline and community of queer culture within India; for its beauty and complexity within a space where it is a sensitive issue, deliberately platforming the joy of this queerness as opposed to the over-exploration of it’s pain.

Featured in this issue are queer individuals spanning across a spectrum of sexualities and age groups discussing their coming-of-age experiences in India, tales of Indian mythology representing same-sex bonds, as well as, related artwork and poetry. A beautiful, educational and visual exploration of LGBTQIA+ communities through a non-Western lens.
