On Thursday, June 19th, 8:00pm Hyper Hypo and 77 Press invite you to join us along with co-editors/publishers Josh Hickey & Filip Niedenthal for the launch of The Journal of the Hydra Book Club Vol. 3. This latest issue focuses on the theme of the Sublime, and the evening will include a reading/performance with Nikos Erinakis, Melia Kreiling and Amanda Michalopoulou. The event will take place in the stoa at Hyper Hypo, Voreou 10, 10551 Athens.
From the editors: “It is very important to know that the earliest known example of writing on the Sublime is by a 1st Century Greek writer and literary critic- Longinus (or pseudo-Longinus as the exact attribution of this text remains unknown). His essay defines sublimity in the context of elevated or exalted language exemplified in (mostly) Homerian literature.
“Sublimity flashing forth at the right moment scatters everything before it like a lightning bolt.”
We take a similar, though more contemporary, trip through language into the Sublime in the newest issue of the Journal.”
Vol.3 includes fiction, poetry, essay, and image from:
Sulaiman Addonia, Joseph Akel, Korakrit Arunanondchai, Andrea Applebee, Iris Bernblum, Alice Bucknell, Nikos Erinakis, Taras Gembik, Hydra School Projects, Liya Kebede, Kateryna Lysovenko, Amanda Michalopoulou, Nick Millhiser, Paul Mpagi Sepuya, Eva Papamargariti, Grzegorz Polański, Christoph Ransmayr, Margo Rejmer, Szymon Rogiński, Giles Round, Egill Sæbjörnsson, Desi Santiago, Eleni Sikelianos, George Skordaras, Dr Michel Tsamados, Joshua Williamson, and Nancy Whang.
