Issue launch: Janus Femzine

Next Saturday, January 28th, join us along with Irini Karayannopoulou  and Christina Petkopoulou for the launch of the second issue of Janus Femzine : the most up-to-date practical guide to bad behavior and etiquette for contemporary femininities. For this new issue, Irini Karayannopoulou works with her collection of photographic material derived from porn and nudist magazines of the 1960s. She inverts their original narrative with her characteristic “painting collage”, vaguely referencing punk aesthetics. Female bodies escape the male gaze and return to pleasure; wander in nature; commune with flora, fauna and other flamboyant objects. Curator Christina Petkopoulou edits the accompanying texts, creating a kind of collage herself, which consists of excerpts from “Secrets of Loveliness”, a bestselling guidebook for young women from 1964, as well as lyrics from songs that were on the charts in the same year. JANUS returns for all the femininities as an unapologetically available, carnivalesque visual dream.
