On Thursday, 15 October, 7:30 p.m. the Queer Archive presents ΘΗΛΥΚΟ (FEMALE), an independent publication conceived in response to the film of the same name by Konstantinos Menelaou.
Rather than attempting to tell yet another “official” story of Aliki Vougiouklaki, ΘΗΛΥΚΟ brings together diverse voices, texts, reflections and personal readings exploring her image, the body, female identity, desire, sexuality, the star system, memory and the mythology surrounding her. A publication about a woman who was, at once, an icon, a fantasy, a star, a body, a role and, above all, a creation of her own.
Contributors: Kassandra Aetou, Efi Alevizou, Sarantos Georgios, Antonis Gritsis, Aris Dimokidis, Giorgos Kalogeropoulos, Eirini Kartsaki, Konstantinos Kyriakos, Manos Lambrakis, Thaleia Mavros, Giorgos Sabatakatakis, Ilias Sapountzakis, Thanasis Spiliotopoulos, Charilaos Trouvas
For the publication’s launch at HYPER HYPO, ΘΗΛΥΚΟ moves from the page into live action, with readings and performances.
Readings & performances by: Zoi Sgourou, ILIA, Alkistis Poulopoulou, Eirini Kartsaki, Tania Kelly, Ilias Sapountzakis, CHRAJA, Fenia Apostolou
Through readings and performances, the texts in the publication take on a new, live dimension, returning to Aliki—not as a closed chapter of the past, but as an image that continues to transform, provoke and raise questions about gender, desire, female emancipation and the ways in which we look at women.
Free admission. Readings will be in Greek.
